One Year's Difference (Russia x Reader)

You felt so embarrassed calling him like this, but you had no idea what to do. How were you supposed to tell him, or anybody about this? How would he react? You blew your nose and wiped your eyes, but they kept coming in waves. Today was the most miserable day of your life and this phone call determined how much better or worse it would get.

riiiing. riiiing.

"Hello?" answered the voice you'd been expecting. "What is it?"

"M-Matthias.. I- it's.. oh God, I can't say it.. It's so horrible!"

"_______, what's going on?"


Matthias. One of the few people you'd contacted last. Not to mention your ex-boyfriend.


"M-Matthias, i-it's..

He did it. He really did it." you sobbed into the phone. "Oh,God, he actually did it!" you screamed.

"..........."

"He put the gun in his mouth, Matthias! Oh God, I can't, I just can't!! M-my.. my brother!!"


Matthias didn't say a word. He'd always said he'd be there and now what? Silence.


"Matthias?"

"I can't talk right now, okay?" he said and hung up.


This was too much to handle. You threw your phone across the room, shattering it. Your mom walked in the room after hearing the news and held you as tight as possible.




One year later....




You woke up that morning crying, remembering the events of the previous year. Your poor brother.. He'd succumbed to his depression and given up on life exactly one year ago.


riiiing. riiiing.


"Hello?" a different voice answered.

"Ivan.. Ivan, it's me. I just really need to- to talk to somebody, okay?" you told him as you cried.


Ivan sighed heavily. "Sunflower, it is shameful that I am in Russia when you need me most but you can still talk to me through phone. I will try to return as soon as possible, yes?" Ivan comforted. "I know you miss your brother very much but I am with you through spirit. You tell me everything and I listen."

"Ivan, he wasn't there for me, I don't want to be alone again!" you cried.

"Sssh, imagine that I am there giving you hug. Imagine hug and embrace it." he told you.

Ivan continued saying comforting things and listening to your every cry. It really pained him to not be with you, to not be able to hold you to his chest and let you cry there. But it also made him happy that you chose to turn to him for comfort. Especially since he was your boyfriend.



A few hours later....


"Are you feeling better now, my dear?" asked Ivan.

"Y-yes. Much better."

"I am glad to be there for you, my sunflower."


"Ivan, where were you a year ago?"

"Waiting for you to forget about stupid ex-boyfriend."

"Who?"
