"Oh God!!!" you screamed in pain. "Where on earth is Lovino?!"

"________! _________! I'm coming!" Lovino shouted as he ran to the hospital, soaking wet. The thunder clapped as he turned a corner.

He crashed into someone. "Move it, you bastard, I have places to be!"

The bastard and the other bastards he was with wouldn't let him. "These places aren't so important that you can't take the time to fucking apologize."

"Listen, I'm really busy so just move out of the damn way!"

Sorry I couldn't be there, I was tied to a rocking chair

"No no no no no. I don't think I'm done here yet. Grab the guy, you two." he ordered the other guys as they closed their umbrellas, getting all three of soaking wet as well.

"What, no, let me the hell go already!" Lovino struggled.

The guy who was apparently very easily offended punched him in the face. "You better fucking think about what comes out of your mouth next time, boy!"

"Stop, please, I've got a kid on the way!" Lovino begged.

They threw Lovino to the ground and beat him senseless.

I was beaten to a pulp rocking back and forth somewhere.

They robbed him as well, taking all  two hundred dollars he had with him.

Meanwhile, you kept screaming in pain. You really needed Lovino. NOW.

"You're almost there!" a nurse said.

"Lovino, where did you go?!" you cried. "Babe, where are you?!"

"Oh my God, this man's dead!" a bystander screamed. Another knelt down and took a pulse. "No, he's still alive. Somebody get a cab and take him to a hospital."

"Almost! Just a little more.."

You screamed in the most unbearable pain imaginable. Then fell in exhaustion.

A tiny voice took in his first breath of air and started crying.

"Mrs. Vargas, it's a boy!"

"Oh my God..." you gasped.

'Lovino, what happened to you so that you couldn't be here for your son?'

If you knew, if you saw, you'd have said it was the final straw.
That my life was bound and tethered on porch by the shore

At the very same hospital, a barely conscious Lovino was being admitted and had an IV being put in his veins.

"Mr. Vargas, we need a contact to come and check on you." said a nurse.

"Nurse.. My kid.. My kid is here." Lovino croaked.

"Your kid? What's your child's name?" she asked.

"I.. I don't know. I don't know if it's a boy or a girl yet. Maybe _____'s still in labor.."

"Mr Vargas, we need a contact now." she spit out, turning the subject around rather rudely.

He tried clearing his throat. "Feliciano.. I know he's here somewhere."

"He's so cute, ______!" Feliciano admired. "Can I hold him?"

"I want Lovino to come so he can first. I have no idea where he's at. I'm really pissed but a kid needs his dad." you told Feli. "He needs to sign the birth certificate."

"I'll call him!"

The nurse had kindly placed Lovino's cell phone on the table beside him. It rang, slightly startling Lovino. He used his good, not broken arm to pick it up.

"Lovino!!" an all too familiar voice practically screamed. "Lovino, where are you big brother?!"

"Feli, I'm-"

"The baby is here! You need to come and see him!"

"Him?!" Lovino suddenly sprang up, hurting his chest. "I have a boy?!"

"He's so cute, Lovino! You need to come see him, _______'s here waiting for you!"

"Feli I can't. I'm at the hospital, too."

But there is no, no, no, no, no
Easy way to tell them so, the things you know

"Then hurry up and come! _______ looks really mad."

And run, run, run, run, run
Run they say, and think they know exactly so

"I got robbed, okay! Some assholes beat me up and stole my wallet!" Lovino shouted.

"Oh Dio mio! How could this happen?!"

"What did Lovino tell you?" you asked.

"He's here at the hospital-"

"Then tell him to hurry the hell up!" you interrupted.

"He was coming but he got robbed along the way!"

Your jaw dropped. Your poor Lovino!

It’s not right, it's not right.
How am I the only one who sees us fight?

"Don't worry fratello, I'll find the guys and-"

"No Feli. There's nothing to be done."

What are we?
Who are they?
Who says those bastards don't deserve to pay?

"But Lovino-"

"I just want to see my son."

Romeo walked in. "Where's Lovi? You think he'd be the one here shooing all of us out."

"Don't ask, okay?" you told him.

"What's the matter, bella?" Romeo asked. He looked at the blue bundle in your arms. "Is this my nephew?"

"Yes."

"He's the cutest kid I've ever seen!"

"You need to sneak me up there, Feli." Lovino ordered.

"Okay! But how?"

"Never mind. Tell Romeo he needs to get me up there. I can hear him talking to my kid."

"All right fratello, can you walk fine?"

"I can walk fine, I just can't move my arm or bend down right."

"Okay, there's nobody out here. Hurry the hell up and stop making your little IV cart make so much damn noise!"

"For a kid, you're pretty damn rude!"

"Do you really want to use that language around your son?"

"Shut up, Romeo!"

You gasped as your husband came in the room while dragging around an IV cart with one arm.

"Lovino! Honey! Did you really get robbed? Are you okay? How did-"

"Don't get so excited or you'll wake him up."

Feliciano got a chair and sat it next to the bed. Lovino put the cart-thing aside and sat next to you.

"How are you?" he asked.

"Really tired." you said.

"This is him?"

"Yeah. I wanted to wait until you got here before anyone else held him."

Lovino held his arm out, where you placed your son.

"He's beautiful.. And I'm the first one to hug him.."

"Are you crying, Lovi?"

"No I am not crying, Romeo! I'm just.. Sweating from my eyes! That's it!"

"Ve, what's the bello's name?"

You looked at Lovino. "You were in charge of that."

"Why me?!" he asked.

"I already got him here no thanks from you, now it's your turn to do something!"

Lovino looked at his son. He was so.. Soft and innocent looking. Like he'd break if you held him wrong. He squirmed a little and yawned.

Well it's enough, it's just enough, cause we don't stand a chance
So long you stay around you're  just another song and dance

"His name's Giovanni."

"Yay! It fits him, too." Feli cheered.

Later, once everyone had come to visit and the birth certificate was signed, Giovanni went into another room to sleep and Lovino was interrogated as to why he snuck out of his room. You had fallen asleep and Lovino stared hopelessly at the ceiling.

"How am I going to be able to support my family..." he wondered out loud.

It's not fair (it's not fair)
It's not fair (it's not fair)
Still I'm the only one who seems to care

You woke up suddenly.

"Lovino? What's wrong?"

Lovino was silently crying into his hand.

"Lovino?"

"________, how are we supposed to do this?!" he sobbed. "How are we supposed to provide for our son if I don't even have a job that pays enough?! I've been working overtime the whole pregnancy and we barely have enough! I had money for a weeks worth of things for him but it got stolen!"

"Lovino, stop! I'll get a job and-"

"No, I will not have you working right after having a child! And our house is so small, what if when he starts crawling around and stuff he gets hurt and we won't have enough to get him to a doctor? How are we going to buy all the food and diapers and medicine and toys and clothes and-"

"Lovino, he has enough things for now. Everybody was very generous at the baby shower."

"I know my parents aren't going to want to help out, and they won't let Feliciano and Romeo do it either, but I shouldn't even have to ask for favors!"

"Lovino, get it together! I know your parents never approved us being together, believe me, I do, but if it's for Giovanni and not for us maybe they will! I know Mister Augustus will!"

"I shouldn't have to ask my grandpa for things! I just.. I just want to be a decent father to Giovanni. But the way we're off now I don't think I can."

"Lovino.."

"I couldn't even be here for you while he was being born.."

You sat up and sat sideways on the bed so your legs dangled off the bed. Lovino got up and moved the IV so he could sit next to you.

"Lovino we don't have much but we'll do the best we can." you comforted.

The nurse brought Giovanni in the room inside one of those plastic bin looking things and handed him to you while leaving the bin next to you.

"Giovanni.." you said while beginning to cry.

"No, mio amore, don't cry.." Lovino pleaded as he began crying too.

The next day..

"Hello? Am I too late or.. Lovino! _____! You're still here!"

"Grandpa!" Lovino called while no longer wearing a hospital gown and stood up.

The two hugged a great manly hug and grandpa's attention turned to you. "How are you, ______ you must be exhausted after all the pain my shit grandson put you through."

"Grandpa, he's right there!"

"Haha, I was just kidding Lovino. You're alright."

Grandpa Augustus gasped. "This is my little great-grandson?!"

"He's my kid, so don't do anything wrong." Lovino warned.

"What's my grandson's name?" he asked while picking him up.

"Giovanni Vargas." you said.

"Hey you, it's grandpa Augustus! You're so cute and small, but you're gonna be tall and handsome and have girls swarming around you like flies!"

"Grandpa, he's not going to be a man-whore like you!"

"I'm not a man-whore! I got married and stuff, I just had lots of fun first."

"Stupid old man.."

"I'm not stupid, don't listen to your dad. I'm so happy for you two, bringing children into the world and stuff."

It's funny being funny, makes you feel like up and running
When your past lingers like rain clouds casting shadows below

Grandpa Augustus left after a while, and Lovino's nurses prescribed him some medication before letting the three of you leave a few days later. Grandpa drove everyone on account of Lovino's bad arm.

Your house was only two bedrooms, a living room,  kitchen and bathroom. You couldn't afford anything better at the moment. Economically, you two were in no position to be having children. The washer and dryer were a housewarming gift from your stingy Austrian friend Roderich, and the kitchen table from your Scandinavian friends.

Francis, a French friend of Lovino's friend Antonio planted a few rose bushes in your yard while Antonio himself made and ate paella.

Your friends only solidified the stereotypes about their nationalities.

Lovino opened the door for you as you carried Giovanni in a car seat inside.

"This won't be your house for long, don't worry about it being ugly." Lovino told him.

"Lovino!" you shouted playfully.

A while later, after getting things settled with Giovanni in the house, Lovino suddenly said,

"I'm getting a new job. I hate working overtime and nights to support a son I'm not even spending time with."

"You're gonna quit?! What are we supposed to do in the meantime?! Haven't you thought about that!"

"Of course I have! I'm doing this for our family! Giovanni needs his father and I need a job that's gonna let me be around him enough to be one!"

You sighed. He had a point. But you were in need of money and having a source of income was critical right now. "This is why I said I would get a job. So that you wouldn't need to work so much."

"No, Vanni needs his mother more than anything. Maybe when he's older."

"This can easily be fixed, Lovino."

"He's too young to be separated from you already. He's only a few weeks old."

"You have a greater maternal instinct than I do, Lovi..." you grumbled.

You two sat down for dinner and just ate. Nothing special, except for Giovanni in the car seat next to you. It was Saturday, your husband didn't work tonight.

Weeks later and Lovino still hadn't found a better job. He would come home early in the morning around two or three and find Giovanni in his car seat on the bed and you sleeping next to him. He could almost sleep through the whole night now.
Other nights he came home while you were still awake and he slumped on the couch to sleep. You would get your son and cuddle up next to him, making him as happy as a man like him could be when he woke up.

"_______, ________," Lovino whispered.

"(incoherent mumbling)"

"Vanni's awake again."

"Can you get him, hon?"

"I just got home from work an hour ago."

"I've been with him all day, maybe his misses his daddy."

Damn, could you hit a nerve. Lovino went to Giovanni's room and cradled him. He was crying inconsolably.

"Shh, Shh, it's alright Vanni, I'm here." he cooed. He kept crying, so Lovino took him into the kitchen and made him a bottle. Even after having eaten, he still kept crying. Lovino did everything to console what he thought could be wrong to no avail.

"Do you not know who I am, Giovanni? I'm your father, Lovino. You know, that guy who would do anything he possibly could to provide for you and protect you?"

'He's so big.. He's way bigger than when I first held him.'

Lovino sat down on the chair that Feliciano bought for him. "Vanni.."

I could live with so many burdens,
I'd take all your hope and yearning

"We don't have much to give you, that's why I'm working so much. So that you can have everything you need. I'm trying to be a good father to you, I really am, but parenting is hard. But I can live like this. I can work like a dog the rest of my life.

But I know you can't. You need me around. You're gonna have expectations of me. And I need to fulfill them."

Lovino was crying. His son needed to hear this even though he probably couldn't understand.

"You're gonna have hopes and dreams, but I can promise you that I'm gonna help you with them. If you want to be a doctor, be a doctor. You want to be in the military, be in the military. Whatever you're happy doing, you do it."

But there's nowhere,
Hide and take me from their petty little woes

"I don't even care if your grandparents think I'm a failure, they always wanted me to leave your mom and there's no way I'd ever do that. I love your mom more than any other woman on earth. You're the proof that I can so something in my life. I just want you to grow up and be somebody you'll be proud of."

Giovanni seemed to quiet down and listen to his father's speech. Like he was paying close attention to his father's wishes.

"I love you so much, Giovanni."

Lovino put his now quiet son back in his crib and went back to you. You were sleeping facing opposite Lovino, something that never used to happen until he started stressing about money.

I used to glow, glow, glow, glow, glow
Once I had a life to show, a love they'd know

When he saw your tense, exhausted face, something hit him. He moved to where you were and held you gently from behind. You were always so tired, so stressed. He kissed your cheek and to his pleasure, you placed your hands on top of his. "I love you, bella."

"I love you too, Lovino." you mumbled in your sleep.

He was gonna have to do something drastic if he couldn't find a job.

*knock knock*

"Julius! Get the door!" a woman's voice called.

"Lovino?"

"Hi, dad."

Julius turned and said, "Claudia! Lovino's here!"

"What?!" she asked in disbelief. "Tell him to come in."

Lovino and Julius walked inside to the living room. Way nicer than his house, that's for sure. Lovino placed the car seat with Giovanni in it on the couch and sat beside him.

"Is this.. Giovanni?"

"Yeah. He's three months old already."

"Can I see him?"

"Of course."

Lovino got the blanket covering the car seat and took it off.

"He's beautiful, Lovino. Look at him, my first grandson. Claudia! Lovino brought somebody!"

Romeo came running into the room. "So I DID hear fratello come in! And he brought Giovanni!"

He picked Giovanni up and held him in the air. "It's me, your uncle Romeo!"

Giovanni laughed playfully. "Look, that's grandpa!" he said while pointing at the man.

Lovino's mother walked in the room and saw Romeo holding his nephew.

"Whose baby is that, Romeo?!" she asked, terrified.

"He's not mine, I swear! I haven't gotten anyone pregnant! He's fratello's baby!"

"Lovino? Look Lovino, I got some cannoli for you."

Lovino's mouth watered. He freaking loved cannoli.

He took three and ate them all while his father held Giovanni.

"So, it's true that you and _______ had a baby?" she asked.

"Claudia, he's adorable!" Julius said. "Lovino, let your mother hold him."

Lovino nodded as he handed the baby to her. She started crying.

"My nephew is just that cute!" Romeo bragged.

"Has Feli come lately?"

"He just left."

"Wait, Lovi, how did _________ let you come here with Giovanni?"

"Giovanni? What a nice name for him!" Claudia awed.

"I told her I was taking him to the park. I brought the stroller and everything."

"What brings you here anyway?" asked Julius.

"Well, um.."

"Si, Lovino, why did you come today?"

'Here it goes. All or nothing.'

"I... I need to

I need to borrow some money."

They're slow, slow, slow, slow, slow
So slow that they never know where I go

Everyone looked at him in disbelief.

"You need to borrow money?" asked Julius.

"..... Yes."

"Why?" asked Claudia.

"Because..

Because I barely have any! I'm working all the time just to make ends meet, and I'm trying to find a better job, and I won't let _______ work because she just had Vanni, and I'm getting desperate!"

"Then let her work! She needs to take a part in this!" Claudia snapped.

"Mom!" shouted Romeo.

"If she wants to work to support your son, then let her do it! She needs to contribute too!"

"She does! She takes care of him all day and night and has food ready for me and has the house clean when I come home!"

It's not right, it's not right
How am I the only one who sees us fight?

"Hell, she works harder than I do! And Giovanni's only three months old, who is she going to leave him with?!"

"Leave him with us, we'll take care of him!" Julius suggested.

"But then _______ would be the one to come and pick him up, and I don't believe she's forgotten what you told her last time she came here, mom!"

"Stay away from Lovino and never come inside my house again!"

"And you didn't say anything in defense, dad! You like ________, so why didn't you say anything?"

Claudia handed Giovanni to Romeo and he took him away from the ugly scene.

"I had nothing against you and _______ getting married, the timing was the only thing I was against! Really Lovino, you were only 21 when you two got married!"

What are we?
Who are they?
Who says those bastards don't deserve to pay?

"We waited until we were 24 to start having kids, does that say anything?"

"Yes, but yet you're still here asking to borrow money."

Well it's enough, it's just enough cause we don't stand a chance
So long you stay around you're just another song and dance

"I just need a lot of help, okay? For my family.."

It's not fair (it's not fair)
It's not fair (it's not fair)
Still I'm the only one who seems to care

"I don't have much to give them, but I do what I can."

I know it's always something
I'm just working with what I've been given

"But I'm happy. I don't care if I have to work all the time. I'm happy doing it."

"But why are killing yourself with all this work, son?" Claudia asked.

"They make me happy. My wife and child make me happy. And I want to make them happy, too. They stay up at night waiting for me to come home. Whenever I can she lets me have time alone with my son. The way he smiles at me.. It all makes me so happy."

It's not my fault, I'm happy.
Don't call me crazy, I'm happy.

Julius let the room then came back a few minutes later.

"I'm going to give you something. Don't you dare waste what I'm about to give you." Julius said, giving Lovino a folded slip of paper.

Lovino began opening it.

"Not here. Do it at your home."

"Are you sure, Julius? I'm glad you're doing this, but are you sure?" Claudia asked.

"Is the Pope catholic? Of course I'm sure! Romeo, bring me my grandson!" Julius demanded.

"Awh, you're going now Lovino?" Romeo asked as he came back in the living room.

"Yeah, _______'s gonna get suspicious and think I kidnapped Vanni."

Lovino put Giovanni in the carseat, strapped him in and put the blanket over it. "Bye, everyone."

"Addio, Lovino."

Lovino drove home where he was greeted eagerly by you.

"Did my boys have a nice time at the park?"

"Yeah, we saw lots of birds and, stuff."

"That's wonderful sweetie." you said, kissing him on his lips. The first actual kiss you two had had in a while..

"My baby's asleep! He needs to go in his room now." you cooed, taking the carseat and everything.

"If mom saw how she was with Vanni she'd change her mind..'

It's not right, it's not right
How am I the only one who sees us fight?
What are we?
Who are they?
Who says those bastards don't deserve to pay?

Lovino remembered the paper his father given him. He curiously opened it.

Well it's enough, it's just enough, cause we don't stand a chance
So long you stay around you're just another song and dance

"Oh Dio mio..." he gasped.

"I can't believe he would just give me this kind of money.. Fifteen hundred dollars.."

"Lovino?" you asked, walking back into the living room. "What are you staring at?"

"I went to my parent's house today, _______."

"What? Why?!" you growled.

"I had to ask for some money until I get a new job.."

"Didn't you say you didn't want to do that?"

"It was necessary, okay? It was really embarrassing and shameful for me."

"I imagine Mister Augustus was there since you're holding a check."

"No. It wasn't Grandpa who gave me any money. It was dad."

"Was your mom alright with it?"

"She was. She really was. But look at how much it is, _______!" he held the check to your face. "Look at it!"

Your jaw dropped. "1500 bucks?! Do you know what we could with this?!"

"I do! I know exactly what we could do with this!"

"Go to the bank and cash it already, honey!"

He picked you up and spun you around before putting you down and kissing you. "This is exactly what we needed right now! I still need that job, but at least we have some more money right now!" Lovino shouted happily.

"God dangit Lovino, I love you so much.." you sighed.

"I love you too bella! I'm going to the bank!"

It's not fair (it's not fair)
It's not fair (it's not fair)
Still I'm the only one who seems to care
I really like Passion Pit, so I thought I'd do a songfic for one of their songs. (It's Not My Fault, I'm Happy) If you don't know who Passion Pit is, i suggest you check them out, because they're awesome! It's a bit longer than my other fics, but that's okay, right? And yes, you have a kid. Isn't that lovely?

Okay, to make things clearer,
Romeo= Seborga (I don't know if it's a common human name for him, but I think it works)
Julius= Romano's dad (I don't know if Julius Ceasar was from South Italy but I was going by Roman rulers)
Claudia= Romano's mom (I heard Claudia was a common name for women in ancient Rome)
Augustus= Grandpa Rome (again, Roman emperors and stuff)

A lot of Romano fics show him coming across as rude and vulgar, so I thought I'd let his more gentle and nice side come out.

I do not own the song or Hetalia! They belong to Passion Pit and Himaruya HIdekaz
you are yours, and I and the plot are mine.

I hope you like it!
